Submission Guidelines

To submit you must be one of the following:

  • A current Mercy College student enrolled in the Fall ’22 semester in at least one class (Graduate or Undergraduate)
  • Mercy College Alum, providing your CWID and Graduation year

General Requirements

Please submit no more than one original piece per genre, except for poetry and art. All submissions must be creative writing or art. No research papers.

Submissions will be reviewed and selected for publication on a competitive basis. The editors reserve the right to reject any piece that does not fit with the aesthetic vision for the journal or does not adhere to our guidelines and formatting requirements. Please send your best, carefully proofread work. We assume all work is original and has been composed by the person submitting it. Any work that is discovered to be plagiarized will be immediately rejected and the student will be reported to the college.

It is important to adhere to the guidelines below:

All submissions should be submitted via email to RedHyacinthJournal@gmail.com
Submissions that are emailed elsewhere will not be accepted nor forwarded.

Submissions are now open! All submissions may be sent to redhyacinthjournal@gmail.com, and should follow all of the Submission Guidelines.

Our call for submissions deadline is December 5, 2022. We may or may not follow up with a second call for submissions depending on what we receive so please get your work into us soon!

1) Please save and attach all written work as a Word .doc or .docx The title of the file should be “TITLE OF PIECE and GENRE”
The genre choices are fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and visual art.
We will return any work unread that is not submitted in Word.

2) Do not put your name anywhere on your written piece; we will do “blind” readings. Simply start with your title.
Your contact information should be included in the body of your email and include your full name, your Student ID/CWID, the best phone number to reach you with, and your full name as you would like it to appear in the journal if you are selected for publication.
